This takes the cake--the "church" (I'd put that in double quotation marks if I could) that made the sign "God Hates Fags" famous has racheted it up a knotch with their strategy to go to the funerals of our American soldiers--and picket with their "God Hates Fags" propoganda.
What in tarnation do the war dead and homosexuality have in common??
The parishoners of Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, through their warped logic, believe that God is punishing America for our love and endorsement of homosexuality--by killing our soldiers. This makes me livid--the disgrace of these people, parading around with our flag held upside down, dragging it on the ground, disrupting the grief of parents and young brides who are mourning their fallen loved ones--as they broadcast their belief that these fatalities are God's judgment upon homosexuality.
A Christian, consumed by the love of Christ--and determined to demonstrate Christ's love to others--shouldn't act this way toward ANYONE, much less grieving people who are completely unrelated to the focus of their campaign.
Inappropriate, despicable, misguided, out-of-touch, derelict, debased, asinine... these words come to my mind, and yet, they don't seem to do justice to how offensive this practice is to me.
To look at their Web site, it seems that this conglomeration of people has no other purpose than this one-note message. They are organized to run constant protest rallies--employing even young children.
They've even picketed at Promise Keeper rallies of all places with signs that say, "Your Pastor is a Whore" and "Fag Promise Keepers."
I don't see anything on Westboro Baptist's site about the sacrifice of Christ for sin, the fellowship of brothers and sisters, support and good works. I can't imagine what going to this "church" is like--even if you were drinking the Kool-Aid, wouldn't you like to hear about how to overcome your own temptations and challenges for once, instead of pointing out the speck in other people's eyes all the time?
Who goes to this "church?" I'd like to see membership numbers. This is utterly shocking and apalling to me.
Editorial note: The bible clearly teaches that all disobedience against God's law--thought, word, and deed--is an offense to Him who made us. God is so purely and entirely good that He cannot look on evil, and must satisfy the lack of good with justice. Because He loves men and women, He provided His Son, Jesus, as a sacrifice of perfect justice for evil.
For those who receive Jesus' death and resurrection, God gives freely of His grace and mercy and forgives these people for every sin: past, present, and future. Our part is to live in obedience and remain connected to Him. When we fail to do this, there are consequences: grief, discontentment, anger, feelings of separation from God--but He is always there waiting to reconcile things with us again.
For those who reject Jesus or God's perfect will--there is justice apart from Jesus' sacrifice. And that justice is discontentment in this life--and hell--in the afterlife.

I just saw that this same group was in PA at the site of the Flight 93 crash today - 9/11. I was reminded of this blog which I'd read awhile ago. I guess I just had a compulsion to agree with your sentiments. This sect represents neither Americans nor Christians accurately.
