With the shocking elimination of Melinda Doolittle from American Idol this week, it got me thinking about the biggest upsets in "Idol" history.
----------------------------------
10. Carrie Underwood beats Bo Bice for Idol title (Season 4).
9. Stephanie Edwards finishes three spots below Haley Scarnato (Season 6).
8. Ruben Studdard defeats Clay Aiken for Idol title (Season 2).
7. Elliott Yamin edges out Chris Daughtry for the final three (Season 5).
6. Taylor Hicks defeats Katharine McPhee for Idol title (Season 5).
5. Brian Dunkleman is eliminated from co-hosting role (after Season 1).
4. Tamyra Gray fails to make the final three (Season 1).
3. Sanjaya Malakar defeats Sundance Head for final spot in the top 12 (Season 6).
2. Sanjaya Malakar outlasts 17 superior talents in the top 24 (Season 6).
1. Season-long front-runner Melinda Doolittle fails to reach the finals (Season 6).
That's my list. Heavily slanted toward this year. This is partly because I didn't see very much of seasons 2-4, but it is also because this year seems to have been very unpredictable. Discuss.

Every year someone gets robbed. Last year it was Chris Daughtry, this year Melinda Doolittle. This is so, because American Idol, whether the producer's believe this or not, has become a popularity contest for tweener girls, not the talent competition they originally intended it to be. The best way I can put it is American Idol is like electing the prom king and queen. It is based strictly on who is most popular not who is most deserving.

Are you still upset about not being prom king Darnell? Come on man, it's been what, 20 years? Move on. We still love you. Even if you were the punch bowl monitor.
