On a lazy Sunday--and I do mean lazy--we got a hare-brained idea from our two-year-old.
We had lunch today at one of my recurring guilty pleasures--Kentucky Fried Chicken. It's rare that I can get Paula to go to KFC, but then I remembered the new boneless filets, and she went along. On a whim, I too, ordered the filet meal, instead of my traditional leg and breast. I was unimpressed.
Nodding off watching football, I gave in and went to bed for a formal nap as the Red Sox thumped the Angels on low volume in my room. When I got up shortly after 4, we started thinking about how to spend the rest of the day and Cooper mentioned the movies. I ran downstairs and discovered that
Ratatouille was starting in 25 minutes at a dollar theater 20 minutes away, so we all scrambled to get ready (with the kids unaware of what their "surprise" was). We got there just after the movie started, but it was a cheap thrill and we had already seen the film back in July. In all, I spent 6 bucks on our tickets and 13 bucks on a refillable tub of popcorn and two refillable large drinks. The movie--again--was great. Funny, smart, and delicious. Paula and I felt so smart to have given our kids such satisfying, but inexpensive entertainment.
Here's where the 100 bucks comes in. So affected by the product placement
within the movie--cheeses, breads, pastas, fresh vegetables, seasonings, wine--Paula and I took one look at each other on the way home and headed the whole family straight to Publix where we loaded up on fine cheeses, breads, meats, sparkling apple cider, Hershey's chocolate, extra virgin olive oil, and these amazing green olives... Wow! We fed the kids and got them to sample the fancy cheeses and olives, then when they went to bed, we feasted on these foods and wondered why, oh why we don't eat like that every day. I can still taste the savory goodness. Take that, Colonel.

I also like the 'traditional leg and breast'.
